CAL hopes that Congressional action will replace the flawed 1981
wilderness boundaries (left) with the Park
Service's improved 2008 boundaries (right) shown
on the new Wilderness Study Map. County roads and major historical sites
are mapped out of wilderness on the new Map so that they can remain
available for general public use and easier maintenance. On the 1981
wilderness boundaries map, this is not so. The new Map received much
public support by the time of the Park Service's publication of the
Final GMP in October 2008.
